ROSETTE 18th Century Diamond Cluster Earrings
18th century Georgian Diamond Rosette Cluster earrings,
Foil-backed rose cut, senaille (a simplified rose cut) and lasque ('portrait') diamonds, set closed, in silver 'pinched collets' on gold back sheet, hand-sawn border. Back-to-front earwires.
Diamonds : 8 around center diamond in each earring; the pair, total 18 diamonds. Each center diamond triangular to pear shape simple rose cut of flat proportions, 4--4.35 x 3--3.35 mm The surrounding 16 diamonds average 1.5mm lasque/'portrait' cut.
Diameter of each center stone compares to that of a modern round diamond .10-.20 carat.

Marks : partial hallmark, double struck on each ear wire, appears to be the weevil mark (Whetstone et al, p 109) designating antique items tested 18k (or higher) when brought into France between 1838 and 1864.
Circa : middle half 1700's to 1780's.

Ear wires : back-to-front hinged gold with hand-made hinge, fastening in gold ring closure above each rosette.
Metals : silver cut-corner collets on solid gold back & wires. Gold tested 18k.
Condition : fine -- excellent for age and type; evidence of some old neat repair at joint between center rosette and surrounding ring on one.
