Oval plaque of Roman Glass Tessarae on black glass ground,
a specialty of Rome since ancient times, and the Vatican workshops.
Roman Micromosaics were avidly collected by travelers on the Grand Tour, often purchased unmounted, and set as jewelry back home.
This one is mounted in a 14k Rose Gold ring with scrolled ornamentation and well-figured papyrus shoulders;
the "14" mark suggests that the gold work was done in the United States
