Limited edition 1931 Folio reissue by G.A.Baker & Co, NY, of the extremely rare original work published 1845 by EB & EC Kellogg, Hartford, Connecticut; a superb facsimile of high quality frequently mistaken for the original.
17" x 12-3/4" hard cover,
decorative gilt-stamped dark blue cloth edition of 600, 111 pages top edges gilt, illustrated with Brown's full-length lithograph silhouette portraits and 27 full page facsimiles of original manuscript letters by the subjects. Tissue guard between each portrait and facsimile letter.
Except for George Washington, all subjects were drawn from life, and include interesting and appropriate details of rooms and environment.
Sitters include John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren, John Calhoun, Henry Cla, yDe Witt Clinton, Andrew Jackson, John Marshall, John Randolf, John Tyler, Daniel Webster, etc. Ink owner's signature "Georgia S Chamberlain"on front free end paper.
