Condition: Very good, light shelf wear to corners and edges of boards, head and tail of spine, cloth minimally rubbed and some light staining; front free end-paper of v I neatly inked "November 29th 1869" beneath a 2-1/2" long erasure of a name in the same hand (with very slight small tear to paper) (also penciled "1st ed / $ 325); pages 263-274 of v II each with a small edge nick, overall pages tight and clean
This 3rd printing of the first edition contains the "conclusion" that Hawthorne added to make the plot resolution more coherent.
