Napoleon recommended all soldiers “ to read and re-read” the campaigns of Turenne.
The title: Marshal General of France,
(given to Turenne 04 April 1660) signified that the recipient had authority over all French armies in the days when a Marshal usually governed one army.
His fame as a general rivaled that of any other in Europe at a period when the populace studied war
more critically than ever before.
