Norwegian silver "Liberation" spoon,  created to celebrate the liberation of Norway from German occupation at the end of World War II.   
 
The heroic figure holds a circular shield with the Norwegian crown on a radiating four-leaf clover... broken chains of oppression continue around the bowl 
 
The circular bowl reads : "NORGE 1945 BRUTT BLEV LENKER BAND OG TVANG" 
("Broken were chains, bonds and restraints") from Ibsen's Pier Gynt) 
 
Weight :  approx 3.3 troy oz. 
 
Length :  7-3/4 , bowl diameter 2-5/8" 
 
Maker  :  Thorvald Marthinsen, Tonsberg, Norway 
 
Idendifying marks :  NM, 830.S, for solid silver, 830 standard;  
image of a goblet and letter "M", the maker mark for Thorvald Marthinsen.
