Clasped Hands "FEDE" Ring, Forget-Me-Nots and Roses

Gold & Carved "FEDE" (CLASPED HANDS) Ring, with carved Roses & Forget-Me-Nots

IN ORIGINAL BOX -- A DOUBLE RARITY !

Clasped hands jewelry--symbol of affection--appears in the late Georgian / Regency period, 1789-1837.
(see Scarisbrick. Jewelry in Britain 1066-1837. p 323).

A variety of natural materials from all over the world were used for carvings; this appears to be steatite (soapstone).

Famous lovers who exchanged "Fede" / 'clasped hands' rings include Admiral Nelson and Emma Hamilton; one of their fede rings survives, documented, illustrated in the book THE COMPLETE NELSON.

Circa 1810-40.
