Henry Havard, born in Burgundy, fled to the Netherlands due to his
participation in the Commune revolutionary movement. He became
an esteemed Art historian and expert in Dutch painting and Delftware.
He returned to Paris after the amnesty of 1879, and contributed
important writings on the decorative arts.
