FORTIS
Swiss watchmakers, founded 1912, with a history of innovation
The Swiss watch company Fortis was founded in 1912 by Walter Vogt. In 1926, Fortis was selected by English inventor John Harwood to produce the first automatic watch, then the first automatic wristwatch, exhibited by Fortis in 1937 Basel World. These would be followed in the Harewood-Fortis partnership by breakthrough model chronographs and waterproof watches through the 1940's.
