JEWELED exceptionally fine small buckle
Early and Fine circa 1730 small "D"-shape (shield shape) buckle,
One extremely similar -- or possibly identical -- is in the collection of George Washington's Mount Vernon -- documented as property of Martha Washington.
It is believed that Martha wore it in the 1730's as a shoe buckle, and then, as styles of dress evolved, as a waist buckle later in the 1700's.

Hand-set with 24 hand-cut square antique cushion-cut "strass glass" pastes; fine craftsmanship, original fine condition throughout.
Provenance : estate of William Woodville (descendant of a 19th century American painter born 1825)
