Master carver Giovanni Noto (1902-1985, known as “o’ professor”) was head of the Giovanni Apa carvers studio founded 1848 in Torre del Greco, Italy, on the Bay of Naples; this carving is by his own hand

The well-carved shell cameo is collet-set, encircled with an applied border of very delicate twisted wire; the pendant bale is hinged, the pin is set in an early style hand-made tube hinge and fastens with a hand-made safety clasp
