An exceptional LARGE (turban size") Crescent Brooch" of 52 "strass" paste gems
PASTES AND SILVER CRESCENT BROOCH, big 2" ('turban size') articulated double row, with original silver pin and hinge.
The 52 big hand-faceted paste gems in a variety of early cushion, oval and near-round "old european cut" antique brilliant cuts, all set in silver "cut-corner" ("pinched") collet mounts. Verso shows the fine early riveted construction of the layers.
Wonderful all original construction and condition
The brooch fits perfectly in the box inherited with it. Underside of the box has the yellow printed label of American silversmith/Jeweler William Ingalls Tenney (b 22 Feb 1806 - d 6 Apr 1848, New York City); box is in "as found" condition, inked with owner's name "Lucy A.K. Adee"
Label on the inherited box reads :
Wm. I. Tenney / Importer Manufacturer & Dealer / RICH JEWELRY, CLOCKS, WATCHES / Silverware / Fancy Goods
251 Broadway / N-York / Corner of Murray & opposite City Hall
Condition of the jewel : fine
Condition of the box : overall good for age and kind, but "as is". The early box is a rare survival, and possibly -- but not certainly -- original to this gem, in which it fits perfectly.
