Very Rare in complete original form : traditional necklace of Yvetot, Rouen and surrounding parts of Normandy, circa 1800-1850
French Pendant Cross Necklet,
18k rose gold, silver, and 201 brilliants
Circa 1790's - 1840's
In fitted box signed
"SONGNY RUE DE LA DARSE MARSEILLE"
The 18k Rose Gold is finished with bright-cut engraved decoration, typical motif of the late 1700's to early 1800's neoclassical.
Necklace is choker length 14-1/2", terminating in gold open teardrop loops for a ribbon which can be tied to length desired. The center bowk-not descends 3-1/2" to bottom of the cross.
Hallmarks & quality marks : on right terminal, maker mark in losenge;; swan in horizontal oval, struck twice.
On left terminal, same maker mark in losenge.
on top fitment of cross, single frame eagle for 18k gold assayed in Paris, 1838-47.
The swan marks indicate re-importation to France from a non-treaty nation between 1893-1970, at which time silver was assayed by touchstone to be 800 or higher.
Gross weight, 1.767 troy ounce.
The address on the fitted box indicates that it was made for the necklace, when the necklace returned to France for sale as an antique, between 1893 and the Second World War (between the beginning date of the re-importation marks & date that the street changed names).
