“SACRED TO AFFECTION” (1795) … an 18th century Love Story from the printer of Oxford's first Newspaper to his lifelong companion

This ring was made specially for Miss Mary Jones, (1741-1815). Mary, youngest daughter of a fishmonger, was employed by Jackson as a young domestic. She grew to become his lifelong companion and the trusted professional who ran the newspaper by his side. Upon his death he had this ring made for her, and left her his title, home, lands and the newspaper business, which she continued to run.
Mary passed the ring, house & title to her niece, Elizabeth Latimer, whose name was added in 1843.
GOLD URN above “SACRED TO AFFECTION” , behind glass, framed in border of "taille epargne" enamel in black and white with gold stars & dots.
