Alexander Munro (1733 - 1817), Chair of Anatomy University of Edinburgh. From a family of anatomists, he followed his father in the post & his son followed him.
Notable for his medical records
(10,007 cases detailed in 33 volumes) and discovery of the “FORAMEN OF MONRO”, which links the lateral and third ventricles of the brain.

Lecture notes written with a superb hand in brown gall ink, fine and legible throughout.

Vol. 1 signed “W M D Edinburgh 1783” (on the first written page), with the large heading “ Anatomy. Sect. 1st .”
Vol. 1 surveys HISTORICAL and CONTEMPORARY ANATOMY.
Vol. 2 signed: “W M D Edinburgh 1783” (on end paper of the front cover)
completes Section 16 from Vol.1, then continues through Section 43., then lectures on the FUNCTION OF ANATOMICAL PARTS (Physiology, some Pathology).
Provenance: Property of a retired physician.
According to the owner : “ These were bought at an estate sale in 1935 by my patient, Mrs. Dolorita Gere. The sale was in Kingston, N. Y.”
