About the THANKS badge

"The highest honor one could receive" from 1917 until discontinued in 1987 .
Originially made as a pin or to hang from a ribbon, most were bronze, sterling or gold-filled, more rarely 10-k gold.

By 1927 the red-white-blue colors were restricted to recipients within scouting; outsiders could be honored by the same design in green.
By 1932, only one version -- suspended from ribbon -- was available, leading some recipients to have pin-backs added later.
