YOUNG LADY with a Rose and a Fan

Oil on canvas, 36” x 26-1/2”
in early, probably original, China Trade type frame
(outside measurements of frame, 41" x 33")

YOUNG LADY HOLDING A ROSE & A FAN
possibly MAGDALENA DOUW (Mrs. H. Gansevoort, 1718-1796), of Albany, New York, first child of Captain Petrus and Anna Van Rensselaer Douw.

This appears to be related to the circa 1740 portrait (collection of H.F.duPont Winterthur Museum # 19735) by limner John Heaton, painted around the time of her marriage.

The canvas is a loose hand weave, the verso with old water stains, possibly from time spent aboard ship. Good 'as found' condition, with very minor losses as visible in detail images.
