DOVE IN WREATH (Georg Jensen # 165) with early marks

GEORG JENSEN # 165 DOVE IN WREATH
(Dove in Acanthus Wreath)

Marks : faint “GI”,” STERLING DENMARK 925”

Diameter : 1-3/4” (40 mm)

Weight : .3465 oz. troy

The flat-end trombone clasp among other characteristics of the markings, suggests a production date circa 1930's.

But the faint "G.I." appears to be a mark used from 1904 to 1908.

Possibly a very early piece returned in the 1930's to Jensen for updating of the catch. (Similar incidents have been recorded, in which a beloved piece of jewelry was returned to Jensen for expert refurbishment years after purchase.)

Reference : David Taylor, The Back Story, in Georg Jensen Jewelry, Bard, 2005.

Provenance : a local lifetime collector of Georg Jensen
