"OVER FORK OVER"; 18k gold, 1918-19 : arms in shield & motto carved in banded stone

"OVER FORK OVER*" motto on ribbon, beneath lion sejant & unicorn head (each on ribbon.) Armorial carved in shield shape, white-banded carnelian. Ring 1918-19, 18k gold

*Motto of the Scottish clan Cunningham, granted by Malcolm, Prince of Scotland, when the first Cunningham saved him from MacBeth by concealing him in straw.

The shield-shape gem, intaglio carved in white and orange banded agate (chalcedony) measures 3/8 x 3/8"

Possibly centuries earlier than the 1918 hallmarked ring, the intaglio-carved banded gem has old cracks and scratches

Hallmarks : London Goldsmiths Hall, June 1918- May 1919, 18k gold. Maker "C...S". (crown / 18 / leopard head / oe "C")
