“BALTIMORE ATHLETIC Club” medal, circa 1890's,
Provenance : estate of Ella Poe Burling. Original owner most likely Arthu Poe (born 1879 in Baltimore), whose name appears engraved on the other items that traveled with this medal.
From Baltimore, Arthur went on to distinguish himself at Princeton (class of 1900)., where, All-American, he made the decisive score that beat Yale in two successive years.
Wikipedia : Arthur Poe's grandfather, Neilson Poe, born the same year as the famous author, lived so closely with Edgar Allen Poe most of his adult life, that he was perceived by many as the writer's brother.
Size : 1-1/4” bar pin, suspending round medal
1-1/2” diameter. Overall height 2”.
Silver finish, with applied gilt laurel wreath and “B” shield enameled red, white & blue
