Circa : late 1880's -- 1900
Rubies : 2.60 carats total (.40, .60, .60, .60 & .40 carat by estimate), antique oval cushion cut, lively bright strong red, medium tone, with flashes of very slightly purple red; clarity SI, inclusions typical of untreated ruby.
No evidence of treatment detected;
Burma origin almost certain
(Supporting factors include the vibrant color and unresolved "silk" inclusions. The ring's date -- & fine unaltered condition attesting that the stones are original --corresponds perfectly to the years of Britain's access to the famous Mogok Burma ruby mines)
Ring design & construction : Renaissance Revival / Art Nouveau,
with fine pierced gallery of foliate tendrils & fleurs-de-lis
Quality marks : (1) English Victorian framed "18" mark;
(2) French 18k "owl" mark (used starting 1893 for goods tested on entry)
Diamonds : 10 rose cut diamonds, 1.5 to 1.7 mm, (.10ct total); each set in Renaissance Revival triangular pinched collets at tendril tops above the the fleur-de-lis & foliate tendrils of the gallery.
