ARTHUR LEE (1740 – 1792) -- BEDSPREAD FRINGE FRAGMENT

18th century BEDSPREAD FRINGE FRAGMENT, framed, from ARTHUR LEE (1740 – 1792) – according to provenance on verso

“Fringe from bed spread given to Arthur Lee when Commissioner to France.
Bed spread was given by his niece Portia Lee, dau. Of William Lee; brother of Arthur Lee. – married William Hodson,
to her dau. Octavia, who had it in her possession when her home was destroyed by fire; and who gave this remnant to –
(signed) C F Lee Jr " (Cassius F. Lee)

Arthur Lee was in Paris in 1778 negotiating the Treaty of Alliance between France and the new United States.

In 1782 he was a Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress.

The Fringe, gold & silver thread-work approximately 2” x 2”, in frame 5” x 4-3/8”
