PAIR OF 11-1/2” OVAL BOWLS, blown in heavy flint (lead) glass, deeply hand-cut with sawtooth fan edge (twenty-four 1-1/4” fans around rim of each 11-1/2” long bowl)
Near colorless, with very slight grey undertone; swirls, bubbles and irregularities typical of hand-made luxury glass of the period
British Isles, documented to Ireland;
circa : 1800-1830's
Provenance : Direct descent from Michael Andrews
(c 1778 - c 1850) who was granted the British royal patent for linen damask production in Ireland.
He founded the Royal Manufactory of Linen and Damask in Ardoyne, Belfast. Original production was on hand looms, later by the Jacquard method, while maintaining a high quality standard
These items, from Ireland's luxury glasshouses of the 1780's through mid 1800's, graced the family home, Ardoyne, in Belfast, according to his great grand-daughter and great-great grand-daughter. During the 'troubles', in the early 20th century, the house was burned, valuables hastily packed, stored, and eventually shipped to family members in America.
