Japan, Arita kilns, counterpart, circa 1670-1700's
Each 8.4" diameter
each hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue, with typical border of precious and auspicious objects around a central reserve.
The two were collected together, and retain typed &/or faded handwritten collector labels.

Japan, Arita kilns, circa 1663-1700's;
The good blue color suggests early in the period, likely before or near 1700. Afterwards, as Japan entered times of growing isolation, the potters had increasing technical difficulty retaining blue color in the firing, resulting in blues of greyish, dark or even violet appearance
