RAREST American Historical Whiskey Flask, 9” Quart Aqua

D. Kirkpatrick & Co. were wholesale liquor dealers and were listed in the 1871-72 Chattanooga Directory as proprietors of Globe Distillery
Background : According to George and Helen McKearin, only two are known. This one was purchased around the 1950's from George Knight, a gentleman from Tennessee. The other believed to be from Charles B. Gardner's estate, now in the collection of the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, New York.

Image : on one side, an American Eagle described by the McKearins as of “unusual form”, wings partly raised and parallel with the body, tail feathers are spread and extending straight down; head is turned to the right with a small olive branch in beak. Above the eagle, in a semi-circle, “D. KIRKPATRICK & Co.*. Below the eagle, in a semi-circle, “CHATTANOOGA” and beneath this in a straight line, “TENN”. The reverse is plain.
Color : a beautiful deep brilliant aquamarine
Fine mold definition and fine overall condition

Provenance : USN Commander (Ret) George Stephens Knight, while he was living on South Washington Street, Alexandria, Virginia. Knight, born in Livingston, Tennessee, died in Alexandria in 1997 (according to Clerk of the Alexandria VA Circuit Court, Ed Semonian).
